MET-VET – Metacognition for
Environmental Thinking in VET
Project number:
2021-2-PL01-KA220-VET-000050783
Description European Initiatives and policies are all linked by reference values, political
objectives and common goals.
The European Commission has six political priorities for the period 2019-
2024, one of them is related to green issues and sustainability is an
“European Green Deal”.
Erasmus+ funds projects that help us move towards a more circular, green
economy, where little is wasted, and pollution is minimised.
The project “Promoting Green Skills through Games” has been selected by
the European Commission as one the Programme's highlighted projects
that are helping European Commission’s green priorities become reality.
The project aimed to develop an educational digital game and associated
resources to enhance sustainability education in schools. The primary goal
was achieved by creating a game and toolkit to support sustainability and
climate action education for students and teachers. These outputs
underwent multiple rounds of testing and feedback to ensure they met the
needs of the target audience. The main outputs, including the game and
training materials, are freely available on major mobile platforms and
public repositories like the iOS store and Google Play store. Feedback from
pilot participants was extremely positive. Furthermore, three online
platforms were created to promote various project elements: the game
(http://penjiithegame.com/), a teacher support site
(https://teachers.penjiithegame.com/), and an official resource platform
(http://greenskillsgame.eu/). A wide range of training materials was
produced, including in-game resources, classroom posters, and online
animations. The innovative game addresses key sustainability topics like
climate change, plastic pollution, biodiversity, and the Sustainable
Development Goals (SDGs). It employs a flipped classroom approach,
supported by a "Teacher Back-End" that allows teachers to release specific
game levels and access curated and bespoke climate action resources. This
facilitates deeper student learning and engagement in climate action
initiatives.
