MET-VET – Metacognition for
Environmental Thinking in VET

Profile of the respondents The respondents represent six VET trainers and two VET
managers with a diverse experience in vocational education
and training (some of them with more than 20 years of
experience, other with just a few years) and working in two
different VET institutions in Cham, Germany. The VET trainers
teach various subjects: ethic, soft skills, entrepreneurship,
etc.

MAIN FINDINGS
According to the respondents, not many initiatives were implemented to improve approaches
and tools regarding teaching, motivation, guidance – half of the participants answered there
were no such initiatives, unlike the other half who claimed there were. The implemented
initiatives were found successful by all four participants and were related to further education
and training, lesson on the topic of motivation, international projects on sustainability topics
and project results reflected in the departments. All are motivated to experiment with further
innovative approaches. On the other hand, the participants who think such initiatives are not
carried out in their institutions are open to using further innovative tools and approaches,
seeing them as necessary for further development. In addition, they are willing to use tools
and approaches developed within the MET-VET project in the context of sustainability and
metacognition competence.

Profile of the respondents All respondents are from the Campania region and they
work in 5 different VET schools located in the provinces of
Salerno and Naples. The teachers have from 10 to 20 years
of experience and teach different subjects, such as:
administration, economics, English language, electronics.
The VET managers are Headmasters of VET schools from 15
years.

MAIN FINDINGS
Eight respondents out of ten declared that they have experimented initiatives to improve
approaches and tools regarding teaching, motivation, guidance. These initiatives include:
adoption of new teaching methodologies, such as Flipped Classroom; integration of digital and
ICT-based tools in the teaching practices such as multimedia whiteboard; programmes and
software for quizzes, interaction, assessment, etc; provision of blended training courses;
project-based learning, simulations of real-life cases and virtual laboratories; creation of
innovation and exchange of good practices projects in the framework of funded project in the
framework of PON and Erasmus+ Programmes (mobility of students and teachers abroad for
