MET-VET – Metacognition for
Environmental Thinking in VET
Project number:
2021-2-PL01-KA220-VET-000050783
Each Module contains four sections – Awareness, Action, Approach, Behaviour Change – that are
meant to help users reflect on their attitudes and approaches in the context of environmental
protection and change their behaviour and everyday practices.
The content of the MOOC allows users to progress through the stages of the MET-VET competences
through an engaging, interactive online course which provides a variety of learning methodologies
for each module to ensure it is accessible to all learning styles.
To facilitate the learning experience and make it engaging for users, the modules offer examples
and real-life, practical scenarios and the contents are supported by images, tables and infographics.
Each Module contains pre and post self-assessment tests and interactive exercises to test the
knowledge acquired (true-or-false, multiple choice, self-reflection exercises, etc.) and provides links
to further resources and information to encourage self-study and future learning.
The MOOC for VET trainers contains additional materials, instructions, tips and recommendations
on how to foster green thinking among learners by using the MOOC and on how to evaluate their
progresses.
Thanks to the MOOC:
- VET learners can benefit from a new approach to the application of the metacognitive skills which
are already a part of their VET learning journey, and which will no doubt be an increasingly large
aspect of VET provision, and indeed all education provision in the future
- VET trainers can integrate in their teaching practices metacognitive and environmental skills
specifically adapted to their own area of expertise and subject taught and, in this way, they are
enabled to actively support and guide VET learners’ environmental and sustainability metacognitive
skills and reflective activities within their professional sector.
In conclusion, the MOOCs contribute to install a broader vision and mindset among both the
learners and trainers, which includes environmental thinking.
VET REFLECTIVE DIGITAL STORY LIBRARY AND CREATION GUIDE
(Project Result 3)
The Reflective Digital Story Library creates an immersive, engaging and highly innovative
methodology to engage VET learners in reflecting on their own environmental approach, whilst also
offering up the opportunity for other VET learners from across Europe to learn from each other's
experiences and reflections.
This digital tool comprises a straightforward, online environmental metacognitive learning and
development portfolio, based on the “Metacognition for Environmental Thinking Competence
Framework” (Project Result 1) for each individual user registered on the platform. This allows users
to log in, record their progress, professional and personal development in each of the areas of the
competence framework, identify their key learning outcomes and environmental approach
competences acquired and map their journey from the beginning of their VET course to completion.
The Portfolio is tied to the Competence Framework and is centralised and linked to the Reflective
Library, that is an innovative digital tool through which VET learners can create their own immersive
digital story about their personal and professional growth and development, based on the
Competence Framework.
Each of these digital stories is stored on the library, and shared with other users, to encourage a
peer-to-peer exchange of experiences interactively.
