RESEARCH CONDUCTED IN ITALY
CONTEXT AND METHODOLOGY
No. of VET teachers/trainers 8
involved
No. of Managers of VET 2
organisations involved
Total no. of respondents 10
Profile of the respondents All respondents are from the Campania region and they
work in 5 different VET schools located in the provinces of
Salerno and Naples. The teachers have from 10 to 20 years
of experience and teach different subjects, such as:
administration, economics, English language, electronics.
The VET managers are Headmasters of VET schools from 15
years.
Methodology adopted Face-to-face individual interviews; online questionnaire
MAIN FINDINGS
Four respondents out of ten answered positively to the question investigating the existence of
an integration and change management strategy in their VET centres. According to their
answers, the strategy implemented encompassed: trainings to improve digital and
sustainability-related skills; elaborate guidelines to enhance and facilitate the integration of
digital procedures and sustainable practices; cooperation with external organisation to
promote initiatives about digitalisation and sustainability; request of national and European
funds to implement projects aimed at the development of digital and green skills among
learners and teachers.
The remaining six stakeholders answered negatively to the question and they think that within
their VET centres there isn’t an integration and change management strategy because there
isn’t enough awareness on the importance of this kind of action (2 people), because there is
not enough time to implement such structured plans, and resources – in terms of capable staff
and money – are not sufficient.
When asked if the VET centre where they work in/they manage integrated initiatives activities
to promote metacognitive skills as part of their digitalization and/or green transition strategy,
the four individuals coming from VET organisation that implemented such initiatives
highlighted their positive effects. They pointed out that there were tangible benefits on
learners, that become: more conscious of their learning processes, their capacities of assessing
their professional and personal learning developments and their ability to plan and execute
learning/work actions using digital tools and taking into consideration sustainability aspects.
However, the stakeholders also mentioned challenges and difficulties faced, such as: the
necessity of well-trained professionals to implement such strategies, the huge workload to
carry out with commitment and quality these initiatives and the need to put in place engaging
measures to face the resistance to change of all the individuals involved.
