About the Project

The members of the European Union have adopted a number of policy documents to reduce their impact on the environment. In this sense, educational institutions (including VET centres) may become the advocates of the “greening process” through equipping teachers with the necessary competences on environmental protection and helping students develop a reflective and forward-thinking green mindset. To do so, the latter might use metacognitive* learning strategies that shall help them align their experience in VET with broader environmental issues.

The project „Metacognition for Environmental Thinking in VET”, or MET-VET project is developing a set of innovative tools to support environmental awareness through broader metacognitive knowledge and skills among VET learners (incl. vulnerable ones) and their educators.

To achieve this goal, the project created:

  1. Metacognition for Environmental Thinking Competence Framework serves as a reference point for all VET stakeholders to be able to integrate environmental thinking into existing VET systems.
  2. “Metacognition for an Environmental Approach to VET” Learner and Facilitator MOOC informs and trains both learners and practitioners to effectively understand environmental reflective thinking from their own perspective.
  3. VET Reflective Digital Story Library and Creation Guide helps learners create their own environmental metacognitive digital story as a means of reflecting on their personal and professional development from an environmentally aware perspective.
  4. VET Metacognition Change Management Toolkit supports VET centres and managers to smoothly integrate the MET-VET tools and approaches into everyday operation.

By doing so, MET-VET aims to contribute to the achievement of wider European environmental and sustainability targets.
